Established as Bjerringbro Die-casting Foundry and Machine Factory in 1944 - an order for automatic waterworks led the company to develop a pump, when no such satisfactory quality pumps were available. In 1946 pumps were developed, produced and sold. The product name Grundfos became the company name in 1967, and The Poul Jensen Foundation ensured that the company continued its social responsibility and welfare ethos.

Grundfos is owned by The Poul Due Jensen Foundation, the employees and the founder’s family, with the Foundation as the primary owner. The Foundation supports research, innovation, environment, sustainable development and humanitarian aid.
